A lot of young Canadians are trying a new drug these days, with often tragic results. The drug is called OxyContin. It’s prescribed by doctors for severe and chronic pain. But when it’s abused it can produce a heroin-like high. It’s also highly addictive, and it can kill. In this News and Review story we’ll look at how Atlantic Canada has been particularly hard hit by an epidemic of OxyContin abuse. And we’ll show you how a young Newfoundland woman is struggling to free herself from the drug’s powerful grip.
