Hurricane Juan: The Terrible Storm

The worst storm to hit the Maritimes in 40 years tore a deadly 300-kilometre-wide path of fury across the region from Halifax to Charlottetown, cutting power lines, sinking boats, ripping roofs off buildings and knocking down thousands of trees. Hurricane Juan was responsible for seven deaths and an estimated $100-million of destruction. The massive clean-up effort lasted weeks before power was restored and most of the damage repaired. Now, the people of the region are absorbing this cruel lesson in the importance of disaster preparedness.
