Defending our Sovereignty in the Arctic

The dramatic shrinking of the Arctic ice cap this year has some experts predicting
that the Arctic Ocean could be ice free in summer by 2013. That would open up sea
lanes to shipping and allow for more extensive oil and mineral exploration. It would
also force Canada to defend its sovereignty in the region. In this News in Review story
we’ll look at how Canada plans to do that and how the melting ice is affecting the
